Para KIDS! Joins City of Newark’s #NewarkReads Literacy Town Hall Tours
September 15, 2025
NEWARK, NJ — This summer, Para KIDS! was honored to stand alongside the City of Newark’s Chief Education Officer, Dr. Sharnee Brown, and the #NewarkReads Literacy Coalition during the 2025 Literacy Town Hall Tours.
Para KIDS! joined city officials in every ward to engage directly with families, educators, and community leaders. The tours served as a vital platform to address the literacy crisis and showcase how bilingual resources can bridge the gap for Newark’s diverse student population.
Collaboration in Action
Working in coordination with the Mayor’s Office, Para KIDS! focused on the critical need for culturally relevant texts, a cornerstone of the city’s literacy strategy. By presenting our Spanish-English and Portuguese-English titles during the tours, we demonstrated how high-quality bilingual literature encourages parental involvement and fosters a love of reading in the home.
A Shared Vision for the Future
The 2025 Town Hall Tours highlighted the importance of neighborhood-level intervention. As the City of Newark continues to implement its 10-point plan, Para KIDS! remains a committed ally in several key areas: support for Multilingual Learners, avoid the summer slide, and community literacy.
About Para KIDS!
